O Lord, our Lord, how glorious is Your name in all the earth.
The psalm ends with the same praise with which it began. The whole meditation on human dignity and authority returns to the glory of God. This is an important boundary: man is highly valued, yet the final center is not man. Every honor, ability, and authority must lead to the praise of the Creator. The repetition also shows that observing creation and understanding man’s calling deepen worship. The believer looks at the world not only to gain knowledge, but to magnify God’s name. The expression “Our Lord” at the same time shows God’s sovereignty and His closeness to His people. He is the Lord of the whole earth and at the same time the God of His people. This verse invites the believer to make his life the continuation of that same confession, showing by deed, by word, and by responsible service how glorious the Lord’s name is.
