What then is man, that You remember him, and the son of man, that You visit him?
Before the greatness of the universe, David marvels at God’s care. Man is small, limited, and mortal, yet the Lord remembers him and visits him with His goodness. The word “remember” here does not mean merely to be informed. It shows caring attention and covenant favor. “Visit” means to draw near with help, guidance, and grace. Human dignity does not come from his size, strength, or achievements, but from God’s attention and purpose. This word both humbles and lifts up man at the same time. We are not so great that we can live independent of God, yet we are not so insignificant that He would forget us. The New Testament also connects this passage with Christ, who by His humility and glory perfectly fulfilled the human calling (Hebrews 2:6–9).
