Psalm 7:13

He prepared weapons of death for him and made His arrows fiery.

The weapons of death and the flaming arrows are poetic images that emphasize the seriousness and inevitability of divine judgment. David is not describing an ordinary human war, but shows that the Lord’s righteousness against evil is mighty and accomplishes its purpose. These images must not be used to justify human cruelty. The instruments of judgment are in God’s hand, not the believer’s. Our calling is not vengeance, but bearing witness to the truth and entrusting judgment to the Lord. The verse also dismantles the illusion that sin is harmless or can remain forever without consequence. God is patient, yet His righteous judgment will finally overcome evil. This warning should move us not to despair, but to repentance. The one who finds refuge in Christ is freed from condemnation, because He took upon Himself the believer’s punishment. Therefore, the seriousness of judgment makes the value of grace even greater.
