Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies. Make Your way straight before me.
David is not asking only for protection. He asks God to lead him in a righteous path. The presence of enemies could have driven him to fear, haste, or sinful responses. For that reason he asks for help to live rightly. The phrase “Make Your way straight before me” does not mean that there will no longer be difficulties in life. It means to show clearly the path on which one must walk. Often the believer wants God to remove opposition immediately, whereas the Lord first wants to keep him in righteousness during that opposition. This verse is an important prayer at the moment of decisions. We need not only open doors, but also true direction. God’s guidance never contradicts His word. Therefore, seeking His way requires obedience to Holy Scripture, prayer, and a readiness to renounce one’s own stubborn self-will.
