You will destroy those who speak lies. The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
This verse shows that God judges a sinful course both in speech and in deeds. Lying often seems like a smaller sin, yet it destroys trust and serves greater injustice. A deceitful man hides his true purpose with words, and the bloodthirsty man harms another person’s life. The Lord’s abomination means His perfect rejection of such a course. This does not justify personal revenge. David leaves judgment to God. The believer also must not answer lie with lie or violence with violence. He is called to speak truth and to entrust justice to the Lord. The verse also reminds us that before God, speech carries moral responsibility. The use of our lips cannot be separated from our faith. The one who worships God must live with honesty and truth.
