Then in His anger He will speak to them, and in His wrath He will trouble them, saying.
God’s patience does not mean that He overlooks evil. A time comes when the Lord speaks with righteous wrath and judges rebellion. God’s wrath is not human, uncontrolled anger. It is His holy and just response to sin, violence, and the rejection of His authority. The phrase “He will trouble them” shows that the confidence of the arrogant collapses before God’s presence. Those who used to frighten others are themselves terrified when they meet the true Judge. This verse warns us not to confuse God’s longsuffering with indifference. He gives time for repentance, but He does not leave sin unpunished forever. For the believer, this is also a comfort: the injustice done in the world does not have the final word. In His time God will reveal the truth and will judge every deed with righteousness.
