Its rising is from one end of the heavens, and its course is to the other end, and nothing is hidden from its heat.
The sun’s course spans the whole sky, and the effect of its warmth spreads everywhere. From David’s perspective, this is the climax of creation’s universal testimony. Just as it is hard to hide completely from the sun’s light, so the signs of God’s glory are spread throughout the whole created world. The verse does not give a scientific astronomical description, but speaks in the poetic language of an everyday observer. This is important for correct interpretation. The purpose of Holy Scripture here is not to explain heavenly mechanics, but to proclaim the glory of the Creator. From these words the believer can learn gratitude for the common blessings that God gives to people: light, warmth, and the conditions for life. With this verse the description of creation’s testimony is completed, and in the next section the psalm turns to the word of God. Creation testifies about God’s power and glory, but His word more clearly reveals His will and leads a person toward a right life.
