He comes out of his tent like a bridegroom, and like a mighty man he rejoices to run his course.
The sunrise is described with two joyful and powerful images. The bridegroom comes out of his chamber with joy and solemnity, and the mighty runner is ready to run his course with strength. This poetic language does not make the sun into a person, but expresses its brightness, its regular course, and its unbroken movement. David sees order in nature, not chaos. Each day the sun travels the path set by the Creator. For the believer, this can become an example of faithfulness—not in the sense that nature is an independent moral teacher, but because the order of creation also reminds us of a person’s calling. We too are called to walk the path given by God with faithfulness and joyful obedience. The sun’s regular course also reminds us that the Lord’s providence is steadfast. Every new morning bears witness to His continuing care.
