Keep Your servant from arrogant sins. do not let them rule over me. Then I will be blameless and clean from great transgressions.
David asks God to keep him from “presumptuous sins,” those sins a person commits knowingly and boldly, disregarding God’s will. He understands that sin can remain not only an isolated act, but can also rule over a person and keep him under its power. For this reason David asks not only for forgiveness, but also for God’s protection: “let them not rule over me.” The phrase “then I will be blameless” does not mean absolute sinlessness, but a whole and sincere walk before God, without remaining in conscious rebellion. To be “clean from great transgression” shows his desire to stay far from serious and willful disobedience. For the believer, this verse is a reminder that in the struggle against sin, relying only on one’s own strength is not enough. We must not only repent of sins committed, but also rely on Christ and ask God to keep us, by His grace, from presumption and from the dominion of sin.
