Who can know his offenses? Cleanse me also from my hidden sins.
In the light of God’s word, David turns toward his own heart and realizes that a person cannot fully know all his sins and failures. The question “Who can know his offenses?” is a humble confession about the limits of human self-knowledge. “Hidden sins” here can mean especially those sins that a person does not notice himself or does not fully recognize. Therefore, the fact that our conscience does not condemn us still does not mean that there is no sin in our life. Our conscience also needs to be enlightened and corrected by God’s word. David asks not only to see his sin, but also to be cleansed from it. For the believer, this verse is a call to humility—not to trust only one’s own self-assessment, but to ask in prayer that the Lord would reveal unnoticed sins and grant repentance and cleansing.
