Your servant also is warned by them, and in keeping them there is great reward.
The word of God admonishes and corrects a person, teaching him to live in accordance with His will. The phrase “Your servant also is admonished by them” shows that David places himself as well under the authority of God’s word and is ready to learn from it. The phrase “In keeping them there is great reward” shows that a life of obedience to God’s commandments brings good fruit and blessing. This does not mean that a person earns salvation by his obedience, because salvation is the gift of God’s grace and is received by faith. Yet keeping God’s word forms a wise way of life, a clean conscience, and faithfulness toward the Lord. For the believer, this verse is a reminder that Holy Scripture is given not only to be read and understood, but to be kept by faith and put into practice.
