The saints and the noble ones who are on the earth are all my delight.
Loving God naturally also unites a person with God’s people. David finds joy among the “saints,” those who are set apart to belong to the Lord. This does not mean that they are perfectly without sin. Their distinctiveness is that they belong to God and desire to walk in His way. A believer cannot say that he loves God while continually despising His people. Spiritual fellowship is a grace that strengthens faith, corrects errors, and provides an opportunity to serve with love. The phrase “all my delight is in them” is also a contrast to the idolatry of the next verse. David chooses his spiritual fellowship with those who seek the Lord. For the believer, this is a call to value the church community not as a gathering of perfect people, but as a family of a people who belong to God and are in need of grace.
