The wicked walk about on every side, when the vile are exalted among the sons of men.
The psalm ends with a realistic observation. The wicked roam freely on every side when society elevates and honors the disgraceful. When evil is not only tolerated but also celebrated, many become bolder in imitating it. Yet in light of the previous verses, this is not a word of despair. The Lord’s pure word and His protection remain steadfast. The believer must not consider sin acceptable simply because it is widespread or popular. He is called to distinguish human honor from God’s approval. When shameful things are exalted, living by the truth can be costly, yet it does not lose its value; rather, in such conditions, remaining faithful to the truth has special worth before God. The Lord sees what is happening, preserves and strengthens those who belong to Him, and in His time establishes righteous judgment.
