For the Lord is righteous and loves righteousness. The upright will see His face.
The psalm ends with the steadfast truth of God’s character. The Lord not only does righteous deeds, but in His very being He is righteous and loves righteousness. Therefore the believer can trust Him even when the earthly order is collapsing. “Seeing His face” is an image of enjoying God’s favorable presence. The upright are not those who have never sinned, but those who sincerely repent, rely on God’s mercy, and desire to walk in His way. This word receives its full hope in Christ, who reconciles the believer with the Father and cleanses from sin. The promise of seeing God’s face is the believer’s final blessedness. In the present life he lives by faith, and in eternity he will know God’s presence more fully. Therefore the way of righteousness is not loss, but a path that leads into the Lord’s presence.
