Jesus was going around all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every pain and sickness among the people.
This verse presents, in a concise way, the full nature of Jesus’ ministry: teaching, preaching, and healing, which together reveal the presence of God’s kingdom in people’s lives. Including the cities and the villages shows that His ministry is universal and is not limited to any class or place, and teaching in the synagogues is the proclamation of the truth among the people. “Healing every pain and sickness” testifies to Christ’s compassion and power, by which He touches the whole condition of the human person—soul and body together—and shows that the gospel of the kingdom is not only a word, but a living and restoring work.
