and now, a leper came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, if you are willing, you can cleanse me.”
In this passage, the leper—a man who at that time was socially rejected and isolated because of his disease—comes to Jesus with faith and humility. He approaches Jesus not only believing in His power, but also with respect and reverent trust that Jesus can heal him, if He is willing. The leper shows his faith by saying, “if You are willing,” making it clear that Jesus has complete authority over his healing, and that he fully accepts Jesus’ will. This is an example of faith and humility, where a person recognizes his weakness and wholly relies on God’s power and mercy.
