Matthew 8:21

One of his disciples said to him, “Lord, allow me to go and first bury my father.”

In this passage the disciple, being one of Jesus’ followers, asks for permission to go and bury his father. This desire is natural, since burying a family member was a great responsibility in those days, especially the burial of one’s father, which was considered a primary duty. Yet Jesus will show that the mission of following Him is the priority.
