And why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam in your own eye?
In this passage Jesus warns people that before judging the faults and shortcomings of others, they should first look at their own shortcomings. The metaphors of the “speck” and the “log” are used to show that we often pay great attention to the small mistakes of others while ignoring our own great flaws. Here Jesus urges us to be self-critical and humble, understanding that all of us have our own faults, and that first of all we must correct them.
