The phrase “the ruin was great” emphasizes that by hearing and not doing, a person bears a heavier responsibility than those who have never heard the truth, because deliberate disobedience leads to a deep and painful fall. This parable is a call not only to hear, but also to put Christ’s word into practice, so that the foundation of life may be set on the firm rock.
