Matthew 7:26

And everyone who hears these words of mine but does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

In this saying Jesus warns about the danger of a formal, outward faith, showing that merely hearing his words still has no saving value in itself if they do not become the practical foundation of life. The “house” is a person’s life, “building” is his choice and conduct, and the “sand” symbolizes an unstable foundation: the word that is heard but not done. Such a life may appear built on the outside, but in times of trials and judgment it inevitably collapses. Christ makes it clear that true wisdom is expressed not in knowledge of the word, but in obedience, and only the word that is carried out becomes a firm foundation for a person’s life.
