The rain came, the rivers flooded, the winds blew and struck that house, but it did not collapse, because it was founded on the rock.
In this passage Jesus continues the parable of the house and the foundation, showing how firm is the faith that is built on the rock. The rain, the flooding of the rivers, and the winds symbolize life’s trials, hardships, and blows, which are unavoidable for every person. The house whose foundation is set on the rock is not destroyed, because it has a secure foundation. In the same way, if a believer’s life is built not only on a word that has been heard, but on a faith that puts Christ’s teaching into practice, it remains standing through every trial. Jesus calls us to build a faith grounded in the word of God, so that in the storms of life it will remain unshaken.
