Matthew 7:1

Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.

These words of Jesus are an exhortation to humility and forgiveness, reminding us that a person must not condemn others, because only God sees the depths of the human heart and only He can judge justly. When someone judges another, without realizing it he tries to take God’s place, and in that way he himself becomes worthy of condemnation. Christ does not forbid discerning good and evil, but warns us to refrain from a condemning attitude that is devoid of love and humility. This saying teaches us first to look at our own heart, to understand our own weaknesses, and to treat others with mercy and patience. Whoever refrains from judging gives room for God’s mercy to work within him, and he too becomes worthy of that same mercy.
