Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and many are going on that road.
These words are a symbolic exhortation to choose the path of life that is difficult, yet leads to salvation. The “narrow gate” represents the way of faith, repentance, self-sacrifice, and obedience, where a person must leave behind sin, self-love, and the craving for worldly pleasures. The “wide gate,” however, symbolizes an easy, comfortable, and careless life that ends in ruin, because it has no spiritual direction.
