Matthew 7:13

Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and many are going on that road.

These words are a symbolic exhortation to choose the path of life that is difficult, yet leads to salvation. The “narrow gate” represents the way of faith, repentance, self-sacrifice, and obedience, where a person must leave behind sin, self-love, and the craving for worldly pleasures. The “wide gate,” however, symbolizes an easy, comfortable, and careless life that ends in ruin, because it has no spiritual direction. Here Jesus does not promise ease, but a true goal, showing that salvation requires choice and struggle. Many choose the wide road because it is unobstructed and pleasant, but only those who walk the narrow road find the deep meaning of life and eternal joy. These words are a call to spiritual watchfulness: to consciously choose the path that leads to the Kingdom of God, even if it passes through hardships.
