After that, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan.
This verse presents the beginning of Jesus’ testing. Right after the baptism, when the Holy Spirit came down upon Him, the Spirit leads Him into the wilderness. This was part of God’s plan, not a coincidence. “To be tested” here does not mean being enticed into sin, but undergoing a spiritual trial in order to prove faithfulness to God and victory over evil. The wilderness symbolizes a place where a person remains alone with God, without outward supports. Jesus goes there not to be defeated, but to defeat Satan on behalf of humanity, showing that through obedience and the word of God it is possible to overcome every trial.
