Jesus said to them, “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
With these words Jesus gives his first disciples a new calling. He uses their present occupation, fishing, as an illustrative example to show that now they must be engaged in leading people into the kingdom of God. Becoming “fishers of people” symbolizes their new mission: to guide people to repent, believe, and follow God.
