Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, Satan, for it is written: ‘You will worship the Lord your God, and you will serve only Him’ (Deut. 6:13).”
In this passage Jesus finally rejects Satan’s temptations, commanding him to go away. He refers to Holy Scripture (Deut. 6:13), reminding us of the eternal principle that one must worship and serve only God. Jesus remains unshaken in faithfulness, refusing the exceedingly enticing offer by earthly standards, in which it was proposed to replace the divine way with worldly glory. His words, “Go away, Satan,” show authority and decisiveness, a complete rejection of evil. Jesus not only resists, but also reveals that true faith does not submit to the voice of power, glory, or self-interest. He affirms that true worship must be given only to God, and that no earthly or spiritual temptation can change that eternal law. Thus, Jesus sets an example before believers, showing that victory over evil comes not by strength or calculations, but by trusting and obeying God, firmly relying on His word.
