Matthew 26:69

Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came up to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”

This verse tells of the first moment of Peter’s testing. He who a little earlier had sworn that he would never deny the Lord now finds himself in fear and confusion. The servant girl’s words, “You also were with the Galilean Jesus,” seem like an innocent remark, yet they become a test of faith. Peter is standing at the boundary where faithfulness collides with human fear. This shows that testing always comes in an unexpected way—not with great danger, but perhaps with a small, unnoticed question. That simple statement reveals what is inside the heart: Peter’s faith is real, but still incomplete, and that weakness will soon be exposed in its full extent.
