What do you think? They answered and said, "He is deserving of death."
This verse shows the moment of an unjust verdict, when a human court tries to pronounce judgment on God. The high priest’s words, “What do you think?”, outwardly seem like a consultation, but in reality they are a formal confirmation of a decision already made. Their answer, “He is worthy of death,” becomes the greatest contradiction in history: the One who gives life is condemned to death. Yet through this very unjust trial the divine justice is carried out: they thought they were judging Jesus, but in fact the world itself was condemning its own sin. The words “worthy of death,” spoken as an accusation, also became a door of salvation, because through His death the world was to receive the possibility of new life.
