“You know that after two days it is Passover, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”
In this saying, Jesus openly declares the time and purpose of his coming suffering. He reminds the disciples that two days after Passover, what he came into the world for will take place: salvation through the cross. The mention of Passover is not accidental; just as in the old covenant a lamb was sacrificed as a sign of Israel’s deliverance, so now the true “Lamb of God,” Christ, is about to be offered, in order to set humanity free from the bondage of sin. Jesus foresees not only the event, but also affirms it in obedience, as the fulfillment of the divine plan.
