“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.”
With this verse Jesus presents the kingdom of heaven as a state of waiting, in which believers are likened to ten virgins who go out to meet the bridegroom. The virgins symbolize people who are waiting for the Lord’s coming, and the lamps symbolize the outward expression of their faith and their readiness. The phrase “went out to meet the bridegroom” shows that the believer is called to remain in movement and in watchful expectation, being aware of the Bridegroom’s coming and being ready to receive him. With this image Jesus emphasizes that the kingdom of heaven is connected not with a random presence, but with hearts that are waiting and prepared.
