Matthew 25:19

And after a long time the master of those servants returned and demanded an account from them.

This saying shows God’s patience and, at the same time, the inevitability of His righteous judgment. The phrase “after a long time” reminds us that God gives people sufficient time to show their faithfulness through deeds. Yet that time is not endless: the moment comes when the Lord returns and demands an account. This is an image of the day of judgment, when every person must stand before God to answer for the graces received in life and for the opportunities used or left unused. The demand for an account is not punishment, but a just evaluation: the Lord desires to see how a person has used the gifts entrusted to him. Thus, just as during His ministry Jesus taught faithfulness even in small things, here He also shows that time does not erase what has been done and what has not been done.
