As a man was going to a foreign country, he called his servants and entrusted his property to them.
With these words begins the Parable of the Talents, which is a continuation of the parable of the ten virgins, but from another perspective. Here the “man” symbolizes Christ, who ascended and went to the Father, and the “servants” symbolize the believers, to whom He entrusted His graces and gifts. “He handed over his possessions” means that the Lord has given each person grace, ability, and responsibility to use them for the works of God’s kingdom. This word shows that faith is not a passive state; it is an entrusted value that must work, grow, and bear fruit. Jesus here reminds us that during His absence each servant bears responsibility for what has been entrusted to him, whether it is time, knowledge, or some spiritual gift.
