So you also, when you see all these things, know that the Son of Man is near, at the doors.
Here Jesus reveals to His audience the meaning of the parable of the fig tree, explaining that just as the signs of nature testify to the coming of summer, so the signs of the times must testify that His coming is near. The phrase “the Son of Man is at the doors” shows not only the nearness of the time, but also the peak of the tension of expectation, that the door of salvation or of judgment is already ready to be opened. This is a call for believers to be in a state of spiritual readiness: not to count the days and the hours, but to keep the heart prepared. These words also mean that when people see those changes or signs, they should not be afraid, but rejoice, because the time to be united with the Lord is near.
