The “corpse” symbolizes the place or condition where there is no life, where faith and love are dead, and the “eagles” symbolize the forces that carry out judgment. This saying means that just as eagles unfailingly find their prey, so God’s judgment inevitably reaches where there is spiritual death. Indeed, this saying also reminds us that the coming of Christ will reveal the condition of each person’s heart. Where there is life, there will be salvation, and where there is death, there the “eagles” of judgment will gather.
