Matthew 24:1

As Jesus came out of the temple and was going on his way, the disciples came up to show him the buildings of the temple.

In this episode, Jesus is already leaving the temple as a sign that the divine presence is departing from it. The disciples, amazed by the temple’s glory, come up to Him to point out the grandeur of the temple building, as if trying to highlight the splendor of Israel’s worship. But Christ, leaving in silence, shows that the temple’s outward magnificence no longer reflects the glory of God. This transition embodies the end of the Old Covenant and the opening of the New Covenant, where God’s presence will dwell not in the stones of a temple, but in human hearts.
