And they lifted up their eyes and saw no one except Jesus.
This verse symbolizes the end of the vision and the complete focusing of attention on Christ. Moses and Elijah are no longer seen, because the Law and the Prophets have found their purpose and fulfillment in Jesus. Before the disciples, only Christ remains, as God’s perfect revelation and the only guide of faith. This scene shows that the purpose of spiritual experiences is ultimately to bring a person into a living and direct relationship with Christ, where no other mediators or signs occupy the central place.
