And Jesus came near, touched them, and said, “Get up and do not be afraid”.
Jesus comes near to the disciples, who are trembling before God’s glory and voice, in order to comfort and encourage them. He not only speaks, but also touches them, calming them by his presence. His words, “Get up and do not be afraid,” express Christ’s gentleness and loving care. In that moment Jesus is revealed as the mediator between holy fear and the heart’s peace, showing that the fear born before God’s glory is transformed through Christ into confidence and peace that flows from within.
