Matthew 17:1

Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them privately up a high mountain.

Six days later, after those words when Jesus spoke about His suffering and return, He takes His three closest disciples and leads them up a mountain, to set them apart and to show them a special vision. Peter, James, and John were Jesus’ most intimate disciples and were often chosen to be present for His deepest words and greatest revelations. According to tradition, the mountain is Mount Tabor. As we will see next, this passage prepares for the scene of Christ’s transfiguration, as a revelation of His divine nature in human form.
