After Christ’s transfiguration, the scene changes. They stand before a reality filled with pain, where a father, kneeling down, humbly pleads for his son, who was suffering from lunacy, a spiritual condition brought about by demonic influence. The sick boy’s falling into fire or into water is presented not only as a physical danger, but also symbolizes the soul’s perilous wavering between destructive forces. The boy’s father says that even Jesus Christ’s disciples were not able to heal him, which points to human limitation and deficient faith. This situation shows that before Jesus’ resurrection and the descent of the Holy Spirit, the disciples’ faith and spiritual authority were unstable.
