Matthew 15:6

and he may not honor his father or his mother. Because of your tradition you break God’s commandment.

In this verse and the previous one, Jesus clearly accuses the Pharisees and the scribes of placing their human traditions above God’s commandment. According to that tradition, “offering it to God” (declaring it corban) gave a person the opportunity to refuse what belonged to his parents, saying that it was already “holy” and was being used for divine purposes. In this way, that person avoided the duty of caring for his parents. Jesus says that by allowing this tradition you nullify the commandment “Honor your father and your mother,” which is one of the Ten Commandments. That is, they worship God in outward form, but in reality they break His word, which is clearly a sign of disobedience. Therefore, true worship submits to God, not to one’s own desires or to human customs.
