Matthew 15:38

And those who ate were about four thousand men, besides women and children.

This verse briefly yet profoundly reveals the true scale and significance of the miracle that took place. It mentions about four thousand men, not counting women and children, which shows that the fed crowd was in fact much larger. This wording emphasizes not the exactness of the numbers, but the abundance and all-encompassing nature of God’s blessing. The miracle Jesus performed concerned not a small group of the chosen, but the whole crowd, regardless of age or status. This statement testifies that God’s care is not limited to the bare minimum, but is enough for everyone. This verse also reminds us that when we entrust ourselves to God with the little we have, he can bless and satisfy not only us, but also the people around us.
