Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith. Let it be for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed at that very moment.
Jesus, seeing the woman’s persistence, humility, and unconditional faith, openly marvels at her faith. He not only receives her, but also praises her before everyone. The phrase “Great is your faith” is rarely found in the Gospel. Jesus says the same in regard to the Roman centurion (Matt. 8:10), from which it follows that this woman also shows trust in God’s power without conditions. She did not come to a Jewish prophet, but to the Son of God, and believed that even for her, a Gentile woman, there is a place within God’s mercy. And she receives the answer immediately. This account testifies that God’s mercy is available to everyone when their heart is humble, their faith is firm, and their request is righteous.
