But he answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it before the dogs.”
This is one of Jesus Christ’s hardest words to grasp, yet at the same time it is the moment of the strongest testing and the revealing of faith. “The children” symbolize the people of Israel, “the bread” symbolizes God’s blessings, the truth, healing, grace. “The dogs” symbolize the Gentiles. Yet Jesus does not insult here. As we will see next, He is not rejecting the woman, but putting her faith to the test.
