Leave them. They are blind and leaders of the blind. When a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit together.”
With this statement Jesus emphasizes that they are stubbornly closed to the truth. They do not want to understand or accept the Word of God, because they are guided by their traditions, not by God’s will. “Blind leaders” symbolize those teachers who do not know the truth, yet want to lead others. And if both the leader and the one being led do not see the truth, they will inevitably come to ruin—in this case, they will fall into a pit. This testifies not only to the destruction of those teachers, but also to the danger facing their followers. This word is also a warning to discern spiritual leaders, not to follow those who are guided by human teachings and are not established in God’s truth.
