And those who were in the boat worshiped Him and said, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
In this passage the disciples finally recognize Jesus’ true nature. They are not only amazed at what He has done, but now they worship Him as the Son of God. This event becomes even more powerful in the context that just moments earlier they were afraid, they doubted, and even Peter wavered. After the storm is calmed, their faith grows stronger. Their response, “Truly You are the Son of God,” is the first open act of worship to Him with this name. This is a sign that they have begun to understand that Jesus’ presence is not merely a miracle, but God’s revelation among people. This passage shows that when we pass through fear and trial and there we sense God’s presence, faith becomes deeper than ever before.
