And when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid. and as he began to sink, he cried out and said, “Lord, save me!”
In this passage Peter turned away from focusing on Jesus and looked at the danger. The strength of the wind overcame his faith, and at the very moment he became afraid he began to sink. This shows that faith requires a constant gaze toward Christ. When a believer replaces trust in the Lord with fear and human analysis, he begins to fall. But here it is important to emphasize that Peter cried out to the Lord. His cry, “Lord, save me,” is simple, sincere, and complete. In that moment he knew that only Jesus could save him. This became the beginning of salvation. This passage also teaches that, regardless of the intensity of the trial and personal failure, the Lord hears the one who cries out.
