Jesus immediately compelled his disciples to get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side of the lake, while he dismissed the crowd.
In this passage, the word “made” spoken by Jesus shows that the disciples may have preferred to stay near Him, especially after that miracle, when the people were amazed by their Teacher. But Jesus knew that the people were about to proclaim Him king (as noted in John 6:15), and that mindset could hinder the disciples’ understanding of His true mission. Jesus withdraws by Himself and sends the disciples away, showing that sometimes, even at the best moment, our place is not in the center of the crowd.
