And he ordered the people to sit down on the grass. And he took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, blessed, broke them into pieces, gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the people.
This passage describes the course of the miracle step by step. Jesus establishes order by having the great crowd sit down. Then He takes the bread and the fish that were there, lifts His eyes to heaven, which shows that all hope and power come from God. He blesses, breaks, and gives instructions, but He does not distribute it personally; the disciples do that. In this way, Jesus is the One who multiplies the bread, yet He makes His disciples partners in the work of ministry. This reminds us that God works through us when, in obedience, we receive from Him and pass it on to others. The whole miracle is founded on faith, order, and obedience.
