Then his disciples came, took John’s body and buried it, and then they came and told Jesus.
This verse describes the mournful yet faithful response of John the Baptist’s disciples. Despite the violent killing of their teacher, they go with courage, take his body, and bury it properly. Then they go to Jesus to tell what happened. This shows the disciples’ respectful love and devotion toward Jesus, and the fact that they already recognized Jesus as the Perfect One about whom John had testified. Their action bears witness that when a person’s voice is silenced, his work does not disappear. John had already finished his ministry, but his disciples continued to walk toward the light, toward Jesus.
