Matthew 12:42

The queen of the South will rise up on the day of judgment with this generation and will condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. and now, something greater than Solomon is here.

In this saying, Jesus sets forth the queen of the South (1 Kings 10:1–13) as an example, to show that she, though a Gentile, made great effort to hear Solomon’s wisdom, whereas His contemporaries, having before them a Wisdom greater than Solomon, were rejecting Him. On the day of judgment her example will be a testimony against this nation, because she responded to limited light, while this generation—Jesus’ contemporaries—rejects the full revelation. The words “something greater than Solomon is here” affirm that Christ is not merely a wise teacher, but the living Wisdom of God, and this saying reminds us that a person’s responsibility is measured according to the measure of grace given.
